How young is too young? Is it the media's fault?

Here is a picture of my nephew, Phoenix. He is 4 years old. The other day, my sister said he watches the news. In fact, he asks, mom can we watch the news. Take notice of his carseat.

I started off young too, but not that young. This is a sensitive issue for me because I don't want to step on any parenting skills, it's my sister.

But most children of the states get to watch TV, and the news is interesting them. What is it that is interesting the children? What does a 4 year-old find appealing about the news?

If it's something bad then how is this affecting young children who are watching the news. Is it making them more paranoid and smarter?

Well, Being that this is my kid I know what he is into when he watches the news. He want to find out what the weath is going to be like and if the bad guy was cought by the police yet. He dosn't really follow the stories but see cop cars and the pictures of the rain, clouds and sun and understands if he well need his rain gear or not.
